Next on my project list…

I had planned on waiting until I complete a project before I post about it, but I thought it might be more fun to discuss planned or in-progress projects too.
One of the things I’m (slowly but surely) working on is a rocket stove. I’ve got a piece of the exhaust chimney from our old propane fireplace, a metal stovepipe elbow from the hardware store, and a big popcorn tin from the thrift store.
Actually, the bits and pieces from that old propane fireplace have been a treasure trove for me. I already used the front glass and screen to make a simple solar dehydrator (which I’ll post about here at some point). I experimented with using the metal casing as a solar cooker (I missed a few key design points so I’ll probably try that one again soon). And I may even come up with a way to use the blower fan in some kind of grain winnowing contraption. I think I’m drawn to the poetic justice of recycling parts from a fossil fuel hog for low- or no-impact projects.
But back to the rocket stove. I’ll post some pictures when I get a little closer to the end. But for now, I’ll let Vavrek over at weblife.org show you how easy it actually is to make a rocket stove…
